The Apple Dumpling Gang and The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Ag

"Both of these movies are extremely entertaining and suitable for the entire family. The Apple Dumpling Gang is better than its sequel due to the interactions of all of the major stars. Susan Clark is excellent as Dusty, and Bill Bixby is wonderful and believable as Donovan. The children do an excellent job and appear to have good on screen presence. I would recommend it for children of all ages, including adults who are young at heart.
The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again is good, but it relies more on slapstick than the first movie. You miss the parts of Dusty and Donovan and the children. It is also a little confusing that Harry Morgan plays in both productions, but plays two separate characters. They could have said that he was the Justice of the Peace's twin brother or a look alike relative. Of course he always does an excellent performance in whatever part he plays."
A great DVD set

"This great DVD package combines two of Disney's classic movies - The Apple Dumpling Gang and The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again. The movies document the careers of Amos Tucker (played by Tim Conway) and Theodore Ogelvie (Don Knotts), two of the most incompetent outlaws to ride the Old West.
In The Apple Dumpling Gang, cardsharp and conman Russel Donovan (Bill Bixby) is conned into taking on three children. But, when they involve Amos and Theodore in his life, things quickly go from bad to worse.
In The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again, Amos and Theodore come out of retirement, right in time to fall afoul of Marshal Woolly Bill Hitchcock (Kenneth Mars), who is determined to stop the Apple Dumpling Gang dead in its tracks...literally. So, where can they hide?
Overall, I found these to be two great movies. The Apple Dumpling Gang has a better defined plot, and Bill Bixby and Susan Clark do an excellent job of providing a romantic, if not entirely serious, side to the movie. The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again is indeed more slapstick - Don Knotts and Tim Conway stole the first movie, and as such they are given free rein in this one - perhaps too much, as the movie does seem to have a much less cohesive plot than the first.
But, no matter how you slice it, this is a great DVD set, one that is sure to please the family. As a matter of fact, beyond the two movies there is a great Goofy cartoon - Two Gun Goofy. Yeah, this is a great DVD set, one that should be in the library of every family with young one around...or even those just young at heart. My family and I really enjoyed this set, and we highly recommend it to you and your family."
