The Beach keeps you captivated with suspense but then seems to fizzle out and never recovers. A must for Leonardo DiCaprio fans though!

Leonardo Dicaprio hashad great movie experieces over the years and for me, none dissapoint. But I have to say this one is definitely his most adventurous, mysterious and dazzling performance. Being a huge fan of his, I find that all of Leo's movies are greatly done, however the beach is something that I dont see very often. I was always excited for what would happen next and never got bored with this movie. The book is not exactly the same as the movie but I personally feel like thats better because it lets you think even bigger about whats really going on. I definitely think it takes someone with patience to watch this movie. Leo's acting is the thing that really pulled it all together for me. It's really just incredible!!! And I am very happy that the director chose him for the lead. All in all, great movie....A+++++ and Highly recommend.

I thought this movie was pretty good. It's a very interesting story but it's played very well.

A young DiCaprio gave a star performance with other cast members. The film is provocative providing ecological issues, adventure, drama, romance, beautiful scenery, unexpected action. Very much to my liking.

Movie Reviews
Based on what book?

"First off, I absolutely loved the novel. Amazingly fresh and intelligent. The movie -- cut a main character out, put in ridiculous and unneeded sex scenes, and basically destroyed all the major conflict of the novel. As a movie, it was pretty, little else. As a movie based on a book -- whoa what book did the screenwriter read? Not one scene was the same in both book/film and the movie makes little sense of certain subplots. Read the book -- watch The Beach on cable"

"***** 2000. This movie was based on Alex Garland's The Beach and directed by Danny Boyle. A young man discovers a strange community living in an heavenly island in Thailand. I don't understand why this astounding film wasn't more successful. I suppose no one wants to see too clearly through its mirror for fear of recognizing oneself. If you really want to see how the pursuit of happiness can lead to selfishness and murder, watch THE BEACH. Now."
Not that great

"Not the best movie he's done, kinda dragged in some parts. The music wasn't really great either but does anyone know who sings the music in the previews on TV? It's a woman, sounds ... uh, african maybe? I don't really know but if someone could tell that be great, thanks!"

"Starts out a awesome story of personal discovery and adventure. The scenery is gorgeous and breathtaking. DiCaprio does an amazing job as does the rest of the cast. The Problem...the problem is that the story is weak and shallow. Too many scenes come off as pointless because there are many times that the story goes into an interesting side note then stops halfway through never reaching any resolution. Wait for the 2 dollar cinema."
It's just too bad...

"The book is great, the soundtrack is amazing. But the movie... it's disapointing. Don't get me wrong, Leo delivered, but the movie is like, "no real adventure". We don't really understand why Richard at one point becomes totally insane, and why certain things happen. It's definitely a movie that will be forget soon. Although the screenplays are great, the views are wonderful. I suggest you to wait until its release in VHS or, you'll probably be like me at the end of the movie, shaking your head and wondering why you paid full price to go see this movie. Leo can't make a movie a great amazing movie just by himself, even though he gave a very good performance. To tell the thruth, the previews and the trailer of the movie, were far more interesting than the movie itself, believe me!"
