Pretty good fun...big fans may rate it higher

"This is a pretty fun DVD. Big fans may find more to love than myself, being a casual fan of Ace and KISS. It isn't that expensive and for the money you get a nearly half hour sort of biography piece that is fun and interesting with a bit of history and a bit of good tech talk about guitars and amps etc. Ace also teaches a couple of tunes Cold Gin and Shock Me. The bonus performances and solos and promo for his latest album are nice extras but hardly revelatory. Its well produced for the most part and there are other musicians on the project to add their 2 cents like Matt Sorum and George Lynch that don't add that much in my opinion. Ace really looks shot to heck and ready to join ANVIL but he seems in good spirits and comes across and a sort of cool dude.

"I've been playing guitar for a while and Ace was the # 1 reason I play. I could already play Cold Gin and Shock Me but seeing Ace teach them the way he wrote them sounds truer to any tab or lesson I found online or in print before. Thanks Ace!
I only wish there were a few more songs. Forget the biography and give us an Ace Frehley Rock Clinic. Fractured Mirror, Rock Soldiers, Ghengis Khan, etc... I'll pay good money for that.
With that said this is a great DVD for the price, especially if you want to learn those two songs."

"It would seem as if Ace Frehley is right where he needs to be with his career and his life right now.
Within the past year, he has been staying in touch directly with his fans through social networking sites & small venue performances.
In 2009, he released his best album to date, "Anomaly." It couldn't have come at a better time and it definitely gave a shot in the arm to the rock music community.
In the spirit of giving the fans what they want, Ace is front and center in this new DVD release, "Behind the Player."
The beauty of this DVD is that it stays true to its title, "Behind The Player." This is about the man, where he came from, his personal stories, a very brief synopsis of the early days in KISS and where he is now with his life. There are no lurid stories from the KISS tours and no tell-all tales about Gene or Paul.
The DVD also contains tutorials by Ace for two of his songs, "Cold Gin" and "Shock Me." He explains his inspiration for the songs and then breaks them down piece by piece during the instructional part of the DVD.
But the absolute best part of the DVD is the jam session with Ace and the musicians he inspired, including Matt Sorum & George Lynch.
This DVD delivers to the Frehley fanatics and to the musicians who want to learn techniques by a Les Paul legend.
Thanks to Ace Frehley and all of those involved with this release. "Behind the Player" is definitely worth its weight in gold."

"Ace is an icon. Watching him describe how to play "Cold Gin" and "Shock Me" is awesome. Ace presents these songs but what comes across the most is his love for crunchy guitar and that you have to go for "feel". Stop worrying about open chords, barre chords, power chords, etc and just go for the tone you hear in your head.
Ace Rocks!"
