I'm old enough to remember the "back to the land" movement of the '60's and '70's when disillusioned city dwellers fled their urban life in pursuit of a more natural way of living. Usually this involved buying a piece of marginal land without water or electricity and through hard work and perseverance, eking out a homesteading lifestyle reminiscent of their forbears from the previous century. I was reminded of that idealistic time as I watched this documentary of a young couple and their dog striving to restore a desolate piece of ground using holistic, biodynamic methods designed to work with nature rather than against it. Unlike the "back-to-the-landers" who longed to return to a "simpler time", this couple (with a lot of help from their friends) are actively working toward finding a way to co-exist with the larger world while becoming self-sustaining. Filmed over a five year span, we see the successes and failures, the highs and the lows, of pursuing a worthy dream. Highly recommended for those interested in farming or gardening as well as those interested in botany, wildlife, or holistic living.

I saw this movie on a flight and have been looking for it for two years! It's a charming, well-made movie about a couple who buys some acreage to farm and ALL the setbacks they encounter. This just goes to show that God knew what he was doing when he put each species of animals and insects on Earth and how they all work together to make a wonderful, exciting society. GREAT movie/documentary.
