As with all adaptations, there needed to be some rationalisation of characters and it was very well done. The important aspects of the characters that were dropped were inherited by someone else and it worked well. This is a movie that would be enjoyed whether you had read the book or not. It's easy to follow - not too convoluted and even though it's a romance, there's still some intrigue in the solving of the murder.
