Interesting Westerns from the '50s

"There are a couple of pretty good westerns in this selection of Kit Parker/VCI flicks.
To begin with we have MASSACRE. I saw this one on TV when I was about 12 years old and could not believe how bad it was. It hasn't gotten any better with age. Considering the cast, the acting is stiff, the direction poor and the production values non-existent. It is interesting only because of the history surrounding the making of the picture, which is explained in an interview with Bob Lippert, included on the disk. I am Lippert's biggest fan, but this one is bad.
OUTLAW WOMEN is interesting as a pre-women's lib flick. Anything with Marie Windsor is always watchable.
The best one on the first disc, in my opinion, is THREE DESPERATE MEN. An action packed tale of three deputy marshals that end up on the wrong side of the law...a good cast with Jim Davis and Preston Foster.
The second disc has FOUR FAST GUNS, and features an aging James Craig in the lead. DEPUTY MARSHSAL has Jon "Rama of the Jungle" Hall in the lead and is pretty much a run of the mill oater. The best of the bunch is SHOTGUN. You can never go wrong when Sterling Hayden saddles up and he is in fine fiddle here. Yvonne DeCarlo and Zachary Scott co-star, and there is lots of action, Indians and gunfights.
These are not the best westerns ever made, but it is darn good to see them again!!!! Thanks VCI and Kit Parker."
