Movie Reviews

Highly enjoyable quirky fun
The Tao of Netflix | Washington, DC | 01/07/2010

"I highly enjoyed this film. In short, this is a New Zealand film that tells the story of experimental drug test subjects and their experiences locked up in a facility for a weekend. Its a comic-horror that supposedly spoofs other notable New Zealandish films. The patients are told the drug can have hallucinogenic side effects, and the movie presents amusing sequences of the patients attempting to differentiate reality from not, along with a nurse who very effectively maintains an ambiguously nefarious demeanor.

Its a cute movie. The story is interesting, but not overly incredible, and much more comedy than horror. However, the characters really made the story. A particular male and female meet at the drug test and develop an interesting, and somewhat heartwarming relationship, while also being effectively amusing. The production values are very high, and the acting is good as well. Very highly recommended.

"The movie has a simplistic plot, perhaps as a spoof of horror movie plots which have all blended together. It is basically a comedy with a horror background. I enjoyed the role of Nurse Bates, using the infamous Bates surname. Suze Tye has a really gorgeous set of eyes which come through even as an evil nurse. The animated skeleton with smoke love making scene was original, but not clever or well done. They could have placed the animated characters into impossible positions. The beginning scene of parents attempting to bribe the teacher reminded me of the movie "Serious Man" where the bribe became a moral dilemna for the Jewish teacher, unlike this movie. The movie has sexual scenes, no nudity, and Suze Tye's eyes. I think they should use Jackie Chan and Linsey Lohan for the American version."
