Young Gerard Butler and Jonny Lee Miller are in this if you are fans. You will barely recognize Butler. The last part of the movie is over the top!

I was a little disappointed, I thought with Gerard Butler as the vampire it would be great, but the story is just not developed well. I know that its the basic Dracula story but they could have done so much more.

This was a pretty good vampire movie, nice effects. Gerard Butler is awesome as a vampire.

Turn of the Century Vamp!

"Wes Craven helped produce this interesting, original take on the Dracula legend for the beginning of the new Millennium (which really started in 2001, but don't tell anybody that!). Unlike movies that Craven has actually directed, his buddy Patrick Lussier had the honors.



The film overall is pretty to look at, and though has its suspenseful moments, I didn't feel was all that scary. It had the feel of a teen/slasher "I Was a Teenage Vampire" feel to it. And other times, it had the deception, betrayal and pathos of Dracula, sympathized for and at times despised.



It seems Van Helsing, the good doctor who had eliminated Dracula back in the 19th century, per the Bram Stoker novel, is still alive, having kept himself so by using leeches feeding off the body of the Count. Yuk!



Some "comedy" does not come off well. Like when this idiot bad guy bends down to investigate the vampire looking for any rubies possibly buried in the coffin and gets a leech on his eyelid and tries pulling it off. Geesh!



Or when Jeri Ryan is doing a news piece on the crashed plane (on which Dracula's coffin was aboard) and says to her cameraman "See the tits?" I mean, if I wanted to see that I'd pop in a Star Trek Voyager DVD! Star Trek Voyager: Seasons 1-7



Gerard Butler was convincing as the Count. His early origins and why he hates anything Christian dislikes silver was revealing. Never would have thought of that personal a relationship with Christ. Yes, he's THAT old!



Satire was not lost on me. Entering the Virgin Megastore where his victim Mary works was telling. The crazy feel of New Orleans at Marti Gras time and Dracula feels right at home, as he remarks "Brilliant" to a sex video.



The ending was OK. The fate of Van Helsing was disappointing. And Jeri Ryan as a sexy vamp was enticing. Dracula looking up at a cartoon cross image of Christ and proclaiming "I drink the blood of your Children and grant them what you deny them -- pleasure!" was the scariest part for me. Damn!



Please watch the deleted and extended scenes as well as the "Making Of" feature to really get the full benefit of this film. Just seeing the film alone without these helpers won't have as strong an effect.
