"This is a very enjoyable and informative program on the rise and fall of Napoleon. I learned a great deal about the Emperor from watching this DVD, and found myself thoroughly entertained at the same time. The commentaries, paintings, and live action were interwoven into a seamless presentation that told his story from birth to death, while also interweaving threads of politics, political ambitions, betrayal and subterfuge. I recommend this DVD to anyone who is even mildly interested in European history, since Napoleon had such a profound and lasting impact on Europe during his reign and beyond."

This is a fantastic DVD that is well made with the story of Napoleon Bonaparte clearly and methodically told. I learnt a great deal about this remarkable man. Napoleon was a charismatic man, with incredible self confidence and energy.



This documentary chronicles the life and times of one of the greatest soldiers in recorded history. The story includes his modest beginning at the island of Corsica, his enrolment at the French military academy and his brilliant military campaigns. Under his command, the French army achieved a breakthrough in warfare, using their new forces with daring and skills, which left their enemies beaten and demoralized. The anti-French coalition was repeatedly shattered.



The DVD shows the incredible energy possessed by Napoleon which, although he was an emperor, saw him being involved in day to day detailed government functions. He was an excellent strategist and exceptional soldier who clearly understood some basic principles of war that are currently studied at military staff colleges such as having a clear aim, maintenance of high morale of troops, speed, concentration of force at a decisive point and offensive action. Clearly, Napoleon had won quick, decisive victories by the ferocious application of concentrated force against weak, sensitive points.



Because of the need to cram a lot of information in a couple of hours, a lot of interested information is left out. This is inevitable, however, and what was shown was very well done. This gives an excellent overview and introduction on the life of this remarkable man.
