"Final Yamato is the fourth theatrical film for Space Battleship Yamato. This film provides a lot of interesting plot twists, as well as some interesting concepts (the planet Aquarius, and the chance collision of galaxies). If you've only ever seen Star Blazers, and have never seen any of the Japanese theatrical films, this might throw you off. You really need to see all the films in order for this to make sense. And, if you're only familiar with the Star Blazers episodes, then you may not like or appreciate the tone of this film.
This DVD contains several special features. There are two versions of the postlude that was added to the end of the film (one version is a bit more "explicit" than the other one). The original theatrical trailer is included, as well as "Original Art Galleries" (which includes various line art and promotional art). There are some text-only features that provide some background into the film and the time it was released. You can also see the Original Program Book; however, only some of the text has been translated.
If you are familiar with the Space Battleship Yamato films, then this DVD is a "must get." However, if you are only familiar with Star Blazers (the American dub version of this franchise), then you should perhaps watch the other Japanese films before viewing this one... otherwise, it won't make much sense."

"The japan Region 2 DVD comes from a much cleaner and higher resolution master, has real dolby digital stereo audio mix. Also is the widescreen version of the film as originally shown.
This release is 4:3.
Also like the other voyager dvd's is hard subtitled.
If you can afford it and understand Japanese i suggest get the original japan versions."
