Ghost Rider is based on the comic story from the same name, about a young man trying to save his father from cancer that makes a deal with the Devil to save him. Unfortunately, the Devil lets him die in a motorcycle accident instead and curses the young man, Johnny Blaze (played by Nicholas Cage) to become a flaming skulled bounty hunter for souls that have avoided Hell. Blaze grows up to become the world's greatest stunt cyclist, but the Devil returns, wanting him to gather up a contract for some of the world's most evil souls. Adding problems, the Devil's son, Blackheart, also wants the contract and will stop at nothing to get it. Johnny's only help comes from an old man who seems to know something of the history of Johnny and the contract. But will he be enough. The movie veers away from the comic story enough that purists will be upset, but story-wise, it's not really bad at all. The biggest problem is the special effects. Ghost Rider looks VERY cheap, especially in the light of today's f/x. Even for then, you can tell they were rushed. This takes you out of the moment somewhat by jarring your senses and taking away from the movie's appeal. But, on the other hand, there are worse comic movies. So, if you're a fan, check it out.
