"As it is, however, Some Girls is largely unknown, underrated, and ludicrously dubbed a "teen sex movie." Yikes! I don't think Hollywood knows what to do with a film such as this, which defies easy classification. Most of the rest of the filmgoing and -making world, however, does not so readily pigeonhole works of art. The directing, script, casting, acting, set design, lighting, costumes, art direction and cinematography all are superlative. It wears its age -- 20 years -- amazingly well, and can hold its own with any indy being made today. I'm glad it is finally coming out on DVD. I saw it on the big screen when it was first released and it still haunts me. A bucket full of stars for Some Girls."
Great movie. Bare bones DVD.

"Loved this movie since I saw it late night (I'm a night owl) on cable when I was a teenager many, many years ago. Excited this whimsical, romantic kinda film finally made it to DVD.
I can't give you a better storyline than the folks above me gave. I just wanted to throw in my two cents.
Always liked Patrick Dempsey and this movie is one of the reasons why.
Connelly is as beautiful is ever. There is a sort of mischievous innocence about her. She has ALWAYS wowed me ... and the lingerie in this one doesn't hurt.
Lila Kedrova, as Granny, also gives an amazing performance. I'm not one for grandmothers but it's not hard to believe how the 18-year-old (or so) Dempsey falls in love with her. That, to me, is what this film is all about. If you're a guy's guy, you're likely not gonna get this movie and you might not understand that last sentence. For the rest of you, if what I wrote is confusing but you're a romantic, just trust me. This is a good movie.
It's worth the $9.99 despite the bare bones presentation. No trailer. Just a stereo track. Just the movie. But it is anamorphic widescreen -- it'll fit your widescreen TV just fine and looks great -- so that's super news!
Btw, it isn't the 4x3 movie you may have watched on video all these years ... so, ladies, I don't think you'll see McDreamy's naughty bits. The film was hard-matted when projected at the theater, cutting off the top/bottom parts. What I'm saying is the video casette was showing more of the frame than what you'll seeing here ... though THIS is how it was intended to be seen."
I enjoyed this when it first came out YEARS ago and still do

"It's a "fun" movie (at least for me it was) about the misadventures of a young man while staying with the eccentric family of who he thinks is his girl... I enjoyed it VERY much and snapped it up when it was finally released to DVD..."
A Wonderful Romantic Comedy

"An involving 1988 romantic comedy about a young man who travels to Canada to spend Christmas with the young woman he loves and her family. With beautiful cinematography (shot in very naturalistic light), a wonderful cast, and an engaging script, this coming-of-age story goes way beyond the usual screwball comedy by adding an emotional component that echoes film noir. Funny and touching, the film drew me into the world it portrayed; I thought it ended much too soon. This is one of those films where you feel that the director, the actors, the script, and the music are all in harmony. Highly recommended for all of us who know families that are a little different."
