Movie Reviews

Love triangles, jealousy, revenge and gangsters OH MY!
Vince F | 08/08/2008
(3 out of 5 stars)

"At its heart, Glass Slipper is story about someones lifelong search for a lost loved one. It's also a story about revenge. If you want to know how those particular stories end, you will have to purchase Vol. 2 as well. Yes, this is a very long series and as such has been split up into two volumes. I have just finished Vol. 1 and will be watching and then reviewing Vol. 2 shortly.

The first few episodes cover the early years of two sisters lives. It then jumps forward several years and picks up as they become adults. It contains all the aspects you would expect in a kdrama, and in fact, this series basically throws the kitchen sink at us. I guess the makers of this series decided that kdrama is best served as a very large sampler plate where EVERYTHING is shown in hopes that you will find something that you like. I should have expected this when I decided to purchase dramas that are sold as "volumes".

It has a very good love triangle involving the two sisters. It has a couple of bad love triangles as well. It has a very interesting story involving the corporate world, and it has some very annoying elements involving bullies and gangsters. Throw in some even-more annoying family members and you would think that this would turn out to be one big mess.

Well, the truth of the matter is that this series is saved by a very good love story which is interwoven into a power struggle within a large electronics firm. This, along with the still unresolved "lifelong search for a lost loved one", and this is a journey worth taking.

Yes, it's a journey worth taking, but you are going to have to put up with those annoying and contrived scenes along the way. To be honest, I do not like shows that overuse the "gangster" element, and this one is getting close to crossing the line. I know it serves a very important purpose in this show, but enough is enough. There is also a certain girl that might give the girl from The Ring a run for her money. She and her parents have grated on me from the beginning. Maybe I will be happier about this if/when she gets what's coming to her in Vol. 2.

There are some very good acting performances here and most everyone hit their mark very well. As I said, I DO recommend that you watch this series, but because it's so long, and they throw everything at you, you may not find all of it enjoyable.
