Classic slow burn plotline that had its moments. Would not want to watch again or add to a collection but it is worth watching if you have not seen it and have patience for slow developing plotlines.

When I first saw this movie, probably 10+ years after it premiered, I wasn't excited about seeing it. I just didn't think it was something I would be interested in. I'm not a Katherine Hepburn fan, nor was I a huge fan of Henry Fonda or Jane Fonda. I was surprised. I was totally taken by this movie and enjoyed it from beginning to end. What a great story, well told and well acted.

While Henry Fonda and Hepburn are great, this movie isn't holding up well, in my opinion. I loved it when it came out, but it doesn't seem as special now. It seems more like a glorified TV special than a movie. I'm not a fan of Jane Fonda, and her performance here doesn't change my mind about her. McKeon's performance isn't anything special either, but he holds up OK next to Henry and Kate. And Dabney Coleman is pretty cool in most of his roles, here included.
But Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn are great, as expected. I still dig this movie just for their performances. I'm a big fan of both of them, so when this movie first came out, I was excited to see them together. I hadn't seen the movie again for many years, but despite the cheesiness the movie seems to have now, Henry and Kate still shine through amazingly. I can't say this is the best movie either of them made, but they each did a great job in it, and I'm happy to own a copy.

This is really a great movie. It shares the real life conflict of father and daughter. Henry and Jane Fonda were not getting along in real life just like the characters they portrayed in the movie. It's my understanding this helped to bring them back together before he passes. Anyway the movie was funny, sad,and had beautiful photography.
