""Goya"

Digitally Restored

Amos Lassen

Konrad Wolf's beautiful film about the legendary Spanish painter, Goya, is now available in a digitally restored format from First Run Features.

Donates Bunions, a Lithuanian actor, portrays the artist who had huge successes at the court of King Carlos. Goya amassed great wealth and a wonderful reputation as well as the love of the Duchess. Yet even in his respected position, Goys loved to paint about the suffering of the Spanish populace. Their nightmares became the focus of his work. He managed to upset the leaders of the Spanish inquisition and found himself with an enemy whose aim it was to make Spain devoid of undesirables like himself.

The film is a visual stunner which brings madness and reason into an age when absolutism reigned. Here is a film that will show you man's intolerance to man and a small voice that cried out for justice. Most equate Goya with his artistic output and do not think of him as a man who fought for the rights of man. Here is a look at the man and the period which in many ways changed the course of history.
