There's been some outstanding drama seeping out of the New Zealand area of late. Top of the Lake. Brokenwood Mysteries. The Kettering Incident. Then there's Harry. Based on a true account of the largest methamphetamine bust in the country: Twenty million worth. If you've seen Lord of the Rings and are thinking New Zealand is an idyllic paradise, you may want to watch some of these shows I've listed first. Because you may be in for a shock if you are thinking of visiting. Some of these folks have really got a mouth on them too.
This is a six part miniseries. Quite enjoyed the incidental music. Some of it was straight up Trip-Hop and the rest felt like some wandering deconstructed bits from Trip-Hop tracks. I also appreciated being able to see a sampling of Samoan culture here. Our main detective, Harry, is suffering post stress from an incident in his family. And the way he is handling things keeps informing the choices he is making on the job. The show gets progressively darker until the end, but ends well.
