Great cast, TERRIBLE and disappointing movie, dependent on computer effects rather than plot or character development. Not scary, not interesting, just drivel. Try the original THE HAUNTING from the early 60s with Julie Harris and Claire Bloom - a true classic and on my top 10 of scary movies. Skip this one.

This was one of my favorite scarey movies. I like being spooked/scared but the blood and guts is not my thing, it is just gross.

I made the mistake of seeing this on the big screen when it first came out. Wanted my money back after about 15 minutes of this pointless drivel. This film represents perfectly why the Haunted House sub-genre of horror is a thing of the past. It fails to sacre, is boring beyond belief and the characters r all the type you want to see die in painful ways. This film depends on effects that fail in every way. Bad movie.

I wanted to like this movie, I really did. It had Liam Neeson and Catherine Zeta-Jones, who are both always great. Yet, it fails where the original film suceeded so well. It sacrifices story at the hands of special effects and the result is an okay film that never comes close to the legacy of the original. Shirley Jackson's novella, "The Haunting of Hill House", builds the tension slowly and methodically. We never see what is haunting the house in the original, in this version we see it and it'sm not remotely scary, just mildly amusing. Save yourself a credit and put the original "The Haunting" on your wishlist.
