I'd only seen Sanjeev Bhaskar in "The Kumars at No. 42" which was a comedic night show which paraded various celebrities. It was quite hilarious. Since then, I've seen Sanjeev in several shows which are much more serious in nature. This is one of them and he does a knock up job, this in part being due to the excellent, fully formed characterizations in the script.

A Doctor and his wife answer the call in the sixties to move to Britain and fill shortages in the medical industry, in this particular case, a Welsh mining town. Of course, culture shock ensues. Tradition and superstition are contended with. There are three seasons, and each one contains an overriding story arc, and all is wrapped up well in the end. This show could certainly have been quite retro, but it all ends up being rather fresh, along the lines of Doc Martin with differing dynamics. A lot of warmth and comedy in the mix as well.
