Not Exactly What Was Described
BatznDaBelfry | Bakersfield, Ca. United States | 12/02/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"If you're an Art Blakey fan or Mike Mainieri fan you won't be disppointed. The performances are fine. My problem with this DVD is two-fold. I have the "Jazz Legends" DVD with the Mike Mainieri quartet and Richie Cole (which was labeled as being at the Village Vanguard) and Vol.2 contains the very same performance from Mike Mainieri (only this time correctly labeled as being from Seventh Avenue South). The three songs missing from Mike Mainieri's set (according to the "Live from Seventh Avenue South" CD) on the Mike Mainieri/Richie Cole DVD are the three songs listed as being the performance on Vol.2. Those tunes are nowhere to be found. Instead we're offered a re-run of the incomplete Mike Mainieri set from the other DVD. As much as I appreciate Art Blakey and Richie Cole it was the Mike Mainieri group I was primarily intested in having on DVD. Still the performances are terrific."
