This was one of the biggest wastes of time I've seen in a movie. The acting is very shallow by Christian Slater and the whole town is too wacked up to be believable. It's like the movies for kids where the adults are nitwits. The fact that the town takes suicide as something to admire is a bit too strange and the plot line was jagged and bumpy, like a bunch of movie clips were mashed together.. I only watched it to see Robin Tunney and you barely get to see her at all in the movie. It left me very uncomfortable watching something that can't even be classified as slapstick. I enjoy my share of slapstick but this was off the radar. If you don't care so much about those types of things, you might enjoy the movie, but I had to force myself to keep watching after about fifteen minutes hoping it would get better. Unfortunately, for me, it never did. Not the best performance for Christian Slater at all. Robin Tunney did a decent job for what she was given, but her part didn't fit in the plot at all.

You people just don't get it!

"After reading the ten reviews that supercede mine, I felt compelled to throw my two cents in on the topic of this film. Yes, this movie is a dark comedy and yes, the topic is suicide and yes, it treats life complacently, but not the life of Julian Po. Julian is the hero of this film, not because he is determined to kill himself. He is the hero of this story because he is the only person in the town who has figured out his life. People are drawn to him like metal to a magnet because, in this small town where life is planned out for you from birth, where you do not question normalcy, he torn down normalcy, determined and focused on the goal. This film is powerful and inspiring. If you saw this movie and hated it, either you missed something or just realize that 50% of the population is below average intelligence. Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."
Excellent film... excellent story

"The story and characters were perfect. It captures the essence of a small town and the irony of this young man facing suicide only to change his mind again only to have forces set in motion take control. It is a philosophical echo of our own insecurities and the fact that many of us tend not to live life at its fullest. It had the feel and sensibilities of a live play - would be great on as an off broadway production. Would like to see this in a DVD edition."
The intelligent viewer's spoof

"I've watched this film several times, usually showing it to friends for their first time. Nobody likes the ending, and yet, it's the perfect ending for this movie. You laugh, your eyes moisten, you go through this range of emotions, and human nature is revealed in both positive and negative aspects to a point of making the viewer uncomfortable, then you are snapped to the next vignette. Very well done. I just wish there was a sequel."
