Movie Reviews

A violent, yet productive feature of the exploitation of chi
HopeAndJoy | NJ | 01/19/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Quite a beautiful portrayal of the story of a young, female assassin (Sawa) who develops womanhood in getting revenge for the loss of her parents. The feature has many symbolisms to Sawa's rise from an enslaved girl to a woman who finally decides to choose a path in her life.

The artwork and direction of the series is amazing. The viewer is engulfed upon Sawa's demeanor and state of mind from her first encounter with the corrupt cop that has become her guardian to her relationship with fellow assassin Oboru. Throughout the entire feature, the emotion of despair and rage are so tangible to the viewer all the way straight to the thought provoking ending.

Alone, the scenes of assassination and violence are quite useful in the entertainment side of the feautre as well as the show of the emotions of the young assassins. The scenes show how much ill-will Sawa has developed towards her guardian. Each main character within the feature portrays somewhat of a mental corrupted state. Sawa's guardian has domineered over her whole life creating Sawa to display eyes of forsaken emotion.

Not only is this feature an entertaining, action packed, violent spectrum of anime, it also is a short, submissive psychological portrayal of childhood innocence.

This feature has also been noted to be one of the most controversial titles of anime released."
