Member Movie Reviews George K. from COLCHESTER, CT Reviewed on 7/6/2019... This is a lovely stop-action movie, remarkable for its artistry and its story line. Kubo is origami-based, with a fire-breathing chicken and some monsters that are less amusing. Studded with moments of humor, it's full of Japanese tradition and touching (and unexpected) family closeness. I don't think that small children will enjoy it, as some of the scenes are scary and quite convincing. 1 of 1 member(s) found this review helpful.  George P. Reviewed on 8/4/2017... A young boy equipped with a magical banjo, travels with his posse in search of some stuff. Technically beautiful, fantastic to look at, but quite boring. The direction/pacing are very uneven. Not quite sure who the target audience is, outside of stop-motion animation fans like myself. I did like the sequences with Kubo's evil aunts (the best scenes in the movie). The giant skeleton is fun, but not nearly as memorable as Laika probably thinks it is (they actually cut into the end credits to show the viewer that they animated a huge skeleton model). I appreciate the technical achievements, but it doesn't translate to entertainment here. A boring movie for kids and adults. 2 of 2 member(s) found this review helpful.
