In Life as We Know It, Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel discover that their closest friends have appointed them guardians of their child in the unlikely event of their joint death--an unlikely event that has just happened.... more » Make no mistake: There's no reason this movie should have been any good. The premise is the worst kind of formulaic Hollywood claptrap; the pleasant but cautious Heigl (Knocked Up) is playing yet another uptight fussbudget; since a promising movie debut in the underrated Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!, Duhamel has largely coasted on his looks in tripe like the Transformers movies--yet Life as We Know It is surprisingly likable. After the movie gets through the basic exposition--and navigates some radical shifts in tone with unexpected deftness--the script somehow manages to make its clichés into something resembling real human situations. The colorful supporting characters are all entertainingly written and well played by a solid cast. And both Heigl and Duhamel give understated, engaging performances that manage to make the inevitable conclusion seem almost not inevitable. Director Greg Berlanti (The Broken Hearts Club) deserves kudos for skillfully balancing humor and pathos and turning this unpromising material into a sincere and enjoyable movie. --Bret Fetzer« less
Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel really shine in this and a must if you are fans. It took a bit to get going but it was pretty enjoyable but a common theme did take away from being perfect!

Cute movie about two people who dislike each other but are stuck in each others life. Then add a baby and the fun begins. Real life struggle. Lots of comedy too.

I loved this movie. When two not so close friends are chosen to raise a baby together while both have important jobs and know nothing about babies, it causes some heated moments between the two and not in a romantic way. It is a good movie and worth the watch.

The story line while plausible does have a few issues. Mainly that the baby's parents never discussed with their friends that they were name as Sophie's joint guardians in their will and that they would be expected to live in the house together if anything ever happened to both parents. Who would go to all the trouble of getting their affairs in order in case they die and not discuss their plans with those they chose as their child's guardians? The neighbors were also a bit too much. They included the now obligatory gay couple, fat lady who makes the all too submissive man do everything, businessman with trophy wife on the prowl couple and everyone just gets along all hunky dory to make us think this is a normal American neighborhood. Beyond those two issues the movie is just a nice typical feel good chick flick. we like to watch it when we don't really know what we are in the mood for and don't want to think or be cussed at constantly or having things blown up every 10 seconds. It is different enough from the typical chic flick romance that my husband likes it for nap time.

I've wanted to like Katherine Heigl's movies since I enjoyed her wonderful performance in The Ugly Truth, but she just hasn't done it for me. I found this movie flat, predictable and unfunny. Killers? Ditto. Knocked Up? Ditto. Cute and easy on the eyes, but have been disappointed in all her feature roles since that first film. Can't remember laughing once during this entire movie. Best skipped or borrowed from the library, if you just need to waste some time.

I thought this movie was a little predictable but wonderfully funny and a must see over and over.
