Great movie! I loved Gabriel Byrne! He was perfect for that part!

An exciting movie filled with suspense, betrayal, sword play, and more! I'm a fan of period pieces and this is a fine one. The only fault I found with it was Leonardo DiCaprio's american accent. Being as he was a french king, the lack of any accent was a little distracting to me. But I would recommend this movie highly. (In fact, I kept my copy - this movie is perfect for a rainy Saturday afternoon.)

There's been several versions of this made recently, one even had Chinese martial artists doing the action scenes! This is not one of those, this one is THE BEST, hands down! An all star cast includes Jeremy Irons, John Malkovitch, Gerard Depardieu, and the incomparable Gabriel Byrne. Supporting cast has names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Anne Parillaud, and Hugh Laurie. It is the typical story that has been told a dozen times before. What sets this one apart is the superb acting by the four main characters, the attention to detail, the incredible musical score and the fine settings. The story revolves around a young King of France , selfish and self centered and the plot by the former musketeers to replace him with a twin brother. There's sword play, there's intrigue, there's romance, and there's valor. Look for the humor that arises between Depardieu and Irons. I HIGHLY recommend this film to anyone. One for All, All for One !

Fun romp with modern actors doing their best to channel the spirit of Alexander Dumas' classic. Except for John Malkovich, who is horribly miscast as Athos, and Gerard Depardieu, who is barely tolerable as Porthos, the other actors do a pretty good job. The excellent performances of Jeremy Irons and Gabriel Byrne nearly make up for the other two. Leonardo DiCaprio does pretty good considering how difficult his role was. Fun movie for swashbuckling fans.
