Movie ReviewsASAMI TAKES CHARGE Sesho | Pasadena, TX USA | 02/21/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "The DSA has been taking more and more dangerous assignments in an effort to live up to their name, but they just might have bitten off a little too much in this last volume of Mezzo. After escorting a ancient diamond encrusted mummy worth millions which happens to be cursed, our heroes have to confront a enigmatic hitman/boy who has a crush on Miruka. His target seems to be Kurokawa, but for what reason? Even the cops start turning against the DSA, turning them into wanted fugitives. Just how far does the corruption run? There is a ray of hope in all this despair. Asami! Yes, the little timid, whispering, little girl who was getting beat up by some of her classmates in the first episode. She's even got her own costume and Mikura is training her in martial arts. She'll have to understand that by her standing up for herself, she is standing up for her friends too. And she just might end up saving her idol Mikura's life.
Mezzo has never been shy about referencing other facets of pop culture but this series isn't really about depth and philosophy. It's about action and it's a fun ride in that respect. I really enjoyed seeing Asami evolve into a stronger individual. Seeing as how her family disappears for a month at a time on business trips, the DSA and Mikura especially had to become her role models and family. I don't know if that's such a good thing but at least they care for her. They see worth in her where noone else does. It's fitting that the series ends with her, just as it began. Skimpy extras of Clean Opening/Closings and Production sketches. I would also recommend Noir, Ghost in the Shell SAC." |
