This is a great, different kind of love story. Colin Farrell is a believable single father caring for his daughter who is dying of kidney cancer when an unexpected woman appears and changes everything...for a while.

This film is a fairytale for grown-ups and is one of the most enchanting movies I've ever seen. It's a story that draws on the ancient myth of the Selkies, something I'd never heard about. If you are expecting Colin Farrel to portray another cocky overgrown adolescent with a chip on his shoulder his character is quite different. He plays a thoughtful, loving, divorced father working as a fisherman battling his way through life. The only light in his life is his young precocious daughter who is slowly dying from kidney failure. The stage is set for a woman who enters their lives in a surprising fashion and infuses their lives with her own peculiar form of what appears to be magic. The director has your mind moving one way but you'll be surprised when you discover where it ends. Before this movie I had never heard of Lisa Hannigan but was mesmermized by the closing song she sings called "Braille".
Watch this movie and you can see why it is frequently said that fairy-tales endure over the centuries because they all have a grain of truth in them.
