Based on Stephen King's best-selling novel of the same name, "The Outsider" begins by following an investigation which at first seems like it will be simple and straightforward but things change as it leads into the gruesome murder of a young boy by a seasoned cop. When an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case, it leads the investigators to question everything they believe in. The character of Holly Gibney from "Mr. Mercedes" is a major character in this series.

Considering the history of King adaptations in the past, it's nice to see several quality ones of late. This is another, and a slow burn at that. There were a few scenes from the book which I wish had been included, which would have made things even creepier and bizarre, but I'm really happy with what the producer and director accomplished here. The Outsider is technically another spin-off novel of the Dark Tower universe. These details, scant as they are in the book, were also not included, which I can understand too.

The Australian and British leads were genius (Ben Mendelsohn and Cynthia Erivo) additions. It was rather amusing hearing Ben Mendelsohn's accent in the extras. Heavy Aussie drawl. No idea what he was saying. And yet in this production he somehow manages to sound like a typical American cop. Cynthia Erivo plays the riveting character Holly Gibney, who was introduced in the Mr. Mercedes trilogy of novels (King's first stab at procedural crime drama.) The Mercedes novels were also adapted into 3 series starring Brendan Gleeson.
