I first saw portions of this delightful movie on a christian channel one Saturday night. Amazingly, I just happen to do a search up here and found it. It is a startling view of reality before child labor laws and animal rights were created. The adorable "Willie" portrays a child forced to carry a heavy load in order to care for his family in a dark dangerous mine with a "Pit Pony" also forced to work in the mine. His nemesis "Simon" is saved by Willie, but loses his beloved " Pit Pony" in a cave-in. An all around great christian movie.

This was a true to life story about the coal mines in Nova Scotia and the miners working one particular mine. The miners ranged in age from 7-8 years all the way to grandfathers. This mine was unsafe and kept having collapses. They imported small ponies from Sable Island to pull the coal carts. This was a story based on fact until Nova Scotia finally banned using children in the mines. I liked this movie and would give it four stars.
