Written and directed by the late John Singleton, Poetic Justice was his second movie after Boyz in the Hood (1992 Oscar nomination for Best Director and Best Writing Screenplay). Poetic Justice won Black Movie Awards Classic Cinema Hall of Family in 2022. This is also one of my favorite films from the 90s.

The film is commentary on African American urban life. The main character, Justice, is in a depression following the death of her boyfriend who was killed at a drive-in movie. She takes solace in writing poetry. Set in LA, the film documents the challenges for young African Americans, who experience violence and dysfunction. It takes a road trip to discover friendship, positive family values, and eventually, love. The story features the poetry of Maya Angelou, who makes a cameo appearance.

Singleton expressed the pulse of African American life in film. From Boyz to his later films, Four Brothers and Hustle and Flow, he was able to show the complexities of Black life in America.

"I thought that janet jackson part in the movie didn't really give a strong plot really at all. I felt that Tupac acting was better than Janet and the part with Regins King.If your bored at home it's worth watching if nothing else is on tv. Bring back the 90's feel ."
