This potboiler from short-lived studio Metropolitan Pictures stars gorgeous Polly Ann Young, younger sister of screen icon Loretta Young. She is perhaps best remembered as the heroine of the Bela Lugosi thriller Invisible Ghost (1941). The film was initially meant to take place in a cabaret, and involve showgirls being sold into marriage. The exotic, Japanese-born Toshia Mori (here credited as Shia Jung) began her career appearing alongside Lon Chaney in Mr. Wu (1927). The only non-Caucasian actress selected to be a WAMPAS Baby Star, she also received critical acclaim for her role in Frank Capra's The Bitter Tea of General Yen (1933), playing a part originally intended for Anna May Wong.« less
