Movie Reviews

A great throwback to the "70's cult classics.

"This movie is a throwback to the "Billy Jack" type movies of the 70's with great stunts by all the actors. If you like "Walker Texas Ranger" and good guys triumphing over bad guys, then give this film a try. Action, drama and suspense was not too much for my 13 year old baby girl."
A decent homage to the 70's

"I've always been a fan of 1970's cinema. Films from that time, like Billy Jack, Electra Glide in Blue, and Who'll stop the rain captured the essence of man against "the man"(meaning conservative society), and encouraged free thinking renegades to stand up for the little guy.

The Rain makers is a pretty decent throwback to those types of films. Although it is obviously an indy film it is shot well and does manage to capture the spirit of the 1970's.

Set in the year 1973, the story centers on a group of hippies being run off of their "freedom preserve" by a ruthless group of bikers, the reasons which unfold at the end of the film. With no support from the town or the corrupt local law, the hippies find salvation in an unlikely group who reluctantly bans together to save them. The group of heroes, comprised of Johnny Wingfoot, a Native American just trying to forget Vietnam and live peacefully by himself, Ben, an African American lawyer with his own troubles from the bikers, Tom Cole, Johnny's army buddy, and several others, get involved in the hippies plight one by one and in the end lead them in a rebellion against the bikers, the local law and every other corrupt bad guy trying to harass the hippies and what they stand for.

While a little slow paced at times, the movie does do its job entertaining its audience. Ray Wise and David Andrews are solid actors and Jake Busey is...well, Jake Busey, always fun to watch and just a little bit crazy (must get it from his dad).

If you are a fan of post Vietnam action storylines, The Rain Makers is a film that is worth checking out."
