A low budget film mostly shot in a single apartment building, this film epitomizes stereotypical German efficiency. I don't think I have ever seen a film that so succinctly and completely describes the entire backstory of the zombie apocalypse and the virus that causes it within the first 20 minutes of the film (accomplished almost entirely by a very informative newswoman who deserves a journalism award for her extremely detailed research about the outbreak). The entire movie is only about an hour long - apparently the minimum time needed to tell the story.
There are some interesting variations on the typical zombie virus: apparently the infected can resist the virus as long as they remain calm for a given period of time and don't succumb to the violent tendencies that the virus promotes. In other words, if a person can remain doped up long enough to wait out the effects, their body can build up a resistance and become immune. This leads to an amusing mission in the movie where the main character has to score some downers from an old lady's apartment who was addicted to the stuff (her son was a pharmacist I believe).
Another interesting variation is that these zombies are driven away by bright flashing lights (rather than being drawn to it like normal zombies). Mind you, this is very entertaining when the characters strap flash cameras facing all directions to a bicycle and attempt to bike their way to a small boat on a nearby waterway.
Not a must-see by any means, but if you dig zombies and are curious about how they fare in Deutschland then this might be for you . . . hey, if you think it sucked, at least it was only an hour out of your life, right?
