Movie Reviews

Inferno Hell!
Kit | New York, NY | 04/16/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is the 5th volume of ADV's "Saint Seiya" DVDs, and it's my second favorite by far. This disc contains episodes 20-25, and opens up the gate for the horde of Silver Saints that our Bronze friends will have to battle. Phoenix Ikki takes the cover for this volume, and rightfully so -- especially since the subtle theme to this volume is fire.Whereas volume 4 consisted of mostly filler episodes, volume 5 moves the storyline along and introduces many upper-tier enemies. Included in this bunch among others are the Fire Saint, the Silver Assassain Lizard Misty, and the flaming Centaurus Babel. Saori Kido's true identity is also revealed, and the Saints now must not only protect the Golden Helmet, but Saori as well. Oh, and of course, a special character makes his return to the series.Dubbing-wise, the volume is a mixed bag. The main five Bronze Saints and Saori have improved, and are a joy to hear. Some of the voices for the Silver Saints like Asterion and Babel are great, while someone as intriguing as Misty sounds... weird. A friend of mine also noticed some errors in the dub. The subs are still great, and the only error we've noticed is that at one point they mistakenly refer to a character named "Aiolos" as "Loros". Well, can't win 'em all, I guess.Video-wise, this volume has the best transfer out of the five DVDs available so far. My younger brother, who normally doesn't care for old anime due to its outdated imagery, commented that the video looked "pretty nice" when he took a glance at episode 22. I imagine that if he felt that way, then many others might be thinking the same.In anycase, if you've been keeping up with the series and loved every moment so far, then you probably already have this disc. But if you're one of those people that've picked up either volume 1, 2, or 3, and dropped off somewhere in between, then I recommend you to check volume 5 out. You won't regret coming back to the show."
