If you're willing to give it a chance and not let the black and white effects deter you then you are in for a treat. They did a good job making the transition from comic book to film. And now that the sequel is finally coming out it's the perfect time to see it again or for the first time.

It takes some doing for me to call anything “awesome”, and SIN CITY ain’t got it. It was a pretty good movie (in black and white with halftone greys), in part because it was a whole order of magnitude easier to understand what I was watching than was the case with RENAISSANCE, a jagged, harsh, black/only and white/only film (see my Review of it).
Bruce Willis portrays a one-dimensional over-the-hill cop with a bad heart condition (yeah, right—as if the city’s Civil Service Commission would even allow him to CARRY a loaded firearm, let alone use it) who’s in love with a bad-girl-who-wants-to-be-good (Jessica Alba, whom I could fantasize as being “very good”) that a psychotic son-of-a-Senator wants to “have for supper”. Literally. With, afterward, her head mounted on the wall like a trophy 8-point buck’s would be.
In retrospect, if I once again had to choose whether to spend one Credit in order to watch and own this movie, I think I’d be more interested in the beneficial effects of getting an additional two hours of sleep instead.

For me, this movie was all style, no substance. It looked great, but the "plot" was weak and just a incoherent mishmash of a thousand other hokey action movies. I wish it'd been better, given the great Frank Miller's involvement, and the good lineup of actors.

One of the better comic book adaptations. Stylish graphics, edgy storytelling. Taken from the comic books written by Frank Miller, who also wrote 300, Daredevil, and The Dark Knight.

Prehaps the best film based on a comic book ever made. This movie perfectly capyures the look and feel of Frank Miller's noir series. Highly entertaining.

"This was a "must own", several storylines that interacted with eachother. I thought it would be hokey, but I really enjoyed it, even though it was a little dark & violent. Perfect for Blu-ray, even the extras...this will be a classic if not already in its genre"
