Poor Joe Fallow is a young man with a lousy job, no self-esteem, and no prosepects. All he wants is a date with the girl of his dreams that works at the local coffee-shop, but she won't give him the time of day. One night, he runs into the Grim Reaper battling a lost soul. After accidently helping the Reaper out, the Reaper asks him to be his apprentice, since his time on Earth is running out and he needs to christen a new Reaper. Joe is against it until he finds out the object of his affections has a boyfriend. At which point Joe decides he will give up his boring life in exchange for the powers of being a Reaper. But, as Joe learns to fight and gains self-esteem, he wants to drift back to his old life with new vigor. But a madman bent on opening the gates to the underworld to free HIS lost love causes a terrible loss for Joe. Armed only with his scythe, martial arts skills, and his allies: The Grim Reaper, his own best friend who wants to help Joe in his new life, and a female hunter of the undead, Joe sets out to stop the mad Dante from destroying the world as we know it.

Soul Searcher is from York, which means it's done on the cheap. The DVD itself is about as no frills as you can get. At first glance, you would think it's a burnt copy, but it's legit...and as cheap as York can make it. On the other hand, the movie itself is quite good. The f/x aren't the best, but not the worst, either. The actors do well with this quasi-super-hero story. And the fight scenes are actually pretty well done. Soul Searcher is more of a film for Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans than for hard-core horror afficianados. But, if you like crazy, action-adventure with a supernatural bent, like the tv show Reaper or, well, Buffy and Angel, you'll probably like this nice little B-Movie.
