"This DVD captures a great 80's band at their best. This concert, in support of the album Through the Barricades, shows what a great live band Spandau Ballet is. The sound quality is excellent, and it is obvious that the band is having fun on stage, especially with To Cut a Long Story Short, Revenge for Love and Fight for Ourselves.
The extras include videos for songs from Through the Barricades and it's follow up, Heart Like a Sky. A documentary of the making of the video Fight for Ourselves is good also. This DVD was a project of Gary Kemp and it is obvious that he put some work into it. A definite must have for a fan of 80's music."
Lizzy LOVES this dvd!

Anyways...onto my glittering review...
Been a Spandau Ballet fan for over 21 years now, but living here in the States I'm one of the hundreds of thousands of Spandies that never got to see Spandau Ballet live, the one time they were to tour extensively here Mr. Steve Norman decided to slide across the stage during a sax solo and blow out his knee...darn it anyways. So, we've had to make due with live video and now we get live DVDs from the band and it's great, it's great to see and hear how great they were live because they were a completely different band live to what they sounded like on record. They almost sounded like a different band. I've got a couple different gigs on dvd now, but then I got this one..Live at the NEC...and all I can say is thank all that's sacred that Gary Kemp went through all he did to restore this dvd! The picture is brilliant, doesn't look 20 years old at all and the sound...well the sound is bloody amazing. I swear when I put my home theatre system on I feel like I'm right there, in front row, trying to scramble onstage and attack..well nevermind that. Anyways, not only is the sound and the picture just brilliant but the extras are just wonderful, especially the commentary by brothers Gary and Martin Kemp. For me one of the most special things about Spandau Ballet was their relationship, the bond they had and the chemistry. I loved that they were brothers, obviously very close, and they enjoyed being onstage together. You can see that they're thinking "Yeah, we made it bro, look where we're at!" and that is just brilliant. But this commentary, it's fantastic. Gary Kemp goes into how he went about restoring this gig for the dvd, how he had to hunt for everything. It was obvious that he did it out of complete respect for the memory he has of the band, and contrary to popular belief, I think it shows whatever hard feelings he may have had towards other members at one time are now gone. Of course there were a couple parts of the commentary that made me grumpy but that's better left for the Spandau Ballet forum...only because both brothers seem to find it easy to never give themselves any credit for anything. Anyways, if you're a Spandau fan and haven't bought this dvd yet? What's taking you so long? GO ON! ORDER IT! Do the overnight delivery thing, the extra cost will be completely worth it! And after that? Go on and buy the cd for this gig 'cos thats bloody brilliant also, has a few songs on it that are not on the DVD and if you listen to the commentary you'll find out why! ;O)"
Simply excellent

"At the time of writing, this is a real bargain. The recording quality is excellent, especially considering this was recorded 20 years ago."
