Three Western stars (Martin Short, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase) from Hollywood silent films go to Mexico for what they assume will be a publicity appearance, and find they've actually been summoned to fight a local bandit. Hard to imagine these guys got paid (probably quite well) for having fun and trying to outdo each other in the gags and silly situations department! It is a bit over the top but younger kids will love the humor and non stop action. Chevy, Steve, and Martin are laughably funny and keep the show moving from start to end.

Very funny, even clean enough for my 5 & 8 year old kids. I couldn't believe how much they laughed at this movie that I loved when I was their age.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Chevy Chase, Steve Martin & Martin Short fail too be at all funny throughout this boring waste of time. Pointless, pretenious and badly done overall.

For Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Martin Short fans... this is a classic! Typical goofball humor but with a positive message included. Well worth the viewing.

My husband loves this movie! Typical Chevy Chase (SNL characters) slap stick movie. We laugh every time we watch this classic movie.

Silly yet endearing comedy starring Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, and Martin Short as the silent movie team The Three Amigos. After getting fired from their studio, they accept an invitation to make what they think is a personal appearance in Mexico, only to find out that they've been hired to actually rid a village of the bandit that's been raiding it. I don't know how anyone could dislike this movie; it's no ALL ABOUT EVE or SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS, but it's a lot of fun. The film features some great songs from Randy Newman (my favorite is "Blue Shadows") and a score from Elmer Bernstein that evokes his scores for both THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and STRIPES. Featuring Jon Lovitz, Phil Hartman, and a plethora of pinatas. One caveat: the DVD from HBO Home Video is atrocious, featuring a great deal of gate float (where the entire image wavers horizontally) and end credits that cut off and go back to the main menu before they're finished. This is a DVD crying to be remastered, preferably with commentary by John Landis, Randy Newman, Lorne Michaels, and the stars.

Great movie, terrible transfer

(2 out of 5 stars)
"I love this movie, but this transfer is horrible. It was taken from a movie print instead of an original copy of the movie, so it's grainy, has serious stability issues, and is generally not pretty. Not only that, but it's letterboxed on the disc, so if you have a 16x9 television, you'll be watching the movie with black bars on all sides of the screen, with the actual picture only taking up 50% of your TV's screen.
It's a shame that after all of these years that this movie still hasn't been transfered to DVD or Blu-ray properly. It's terrible that such a classic film has to be represented so poorly."
