Biography of Blas Infante
Artist & Author | Near Mt. Baker, WA | 02/17/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"When I bought this movie, I thought the childhood of Blas Infante was covered more in it. However, it is barely mentioned, so this movie cannot be considered to be about a child or for a child. However, for teens old enough to handle the subtitles, it presents some very interesting issues to discuss. The first, to me, is that even though Infante wanted to bring about change by peaceful means, it proved to be impossible. So, when his associates wanted to use even more radical means, Infante was caught up with them since he was the intellect behind the communistic movement. I would say that Infante likely would have given up his efforts at reform if and when he realized the only way to bring them about was through terrorism. What does your family think? The movie gives a good idea of what Franco's Fascists were like to their opponents. My youngest daughter used to have a Spanish friend, and I will never forget how her father could not stop celebrating the demise of Franco for several years after his death. This movie is really about the clash of two ideologies that could only work under dictatorship. It would be of most interest to people studying Franco's Spain or various communist movements in Western countries."
