Love--Unlikely and Unexpected

Scarlet (Susan Priver) and Sabrina (Musetta Vander) are an odd couple. After an automobile accident brings them together, they begin to get to know one another and chemistry soon keeps them together.
The film is set in Los Angeles and it all begins when Sabrina, a homeless aspiring foreign actress crashes into the back of Scarlet's car. Sabrina who had been living in her car is invited to spend a few days at Scarlet's. Sabrina is full of life which is contrast to Scarlet's high strung personality and she manages to get Scarlet to warm up and become a happier woman. As the friendship progresses, Scarlet's mother (Sally Kirkland) relentlessly hunts for the perfect man for her daughter and her brother, Ben (Jere Burns), gets really angry that she has fixed him up with a porn star. Ben, an unemployed pot smoking lawyer has his eyes on Sabrina who has her eyes set on Scarlet.
The performances of the entire cast are excellent and it succeeds because of this. Priver is a wonderful mix of vulnerability and sarcasm. Vander is just as good and the affair of the two women is natural and true to life. Kirkland provides some excellent comic relief; Burns is also excellent as the slacker/lawyer. The movie, however, is totally predictable--it is one of those romantic comedies that follows the formula of two characters meeting by chance and becoming friends; then there is a misunderstanding that causes the two to break up; love is tested and wins and the couple lives happily ever after.
This is a cute movie but it is full of clichés and we have seen it all before--the only difference is that here it is with a lesbian couple.
