I'm looking for suggestions for Scottish or English based romance movies! I've got/seen Braveheart and I'm #1 on the list for Beowulf & Grendel (ok, ok, not exactly what I asked for but Gerard Butler is Scottish LOL) - any suggestions? I have credits to spend! Sherri |

What about Ever After? That's always been a favorite of mine. Also Four Weddings and a Funeral or Notting Hill. |

What about Scoop? Was that a romance? I didn't like it, just watched it cus Hugh Jackman is a hottie. :o) One movie I watched not to long ago that I would definitely reccommend is Tristan and Isolde (the newest version with James Franco). I thought it was very beautiful and romantic. I watched it twice before I returned it to netflix! |

For a very gentle, chaste romance, you would love Miss Potter. Besides containing some beautiful animations thrown in as a surprise, the story is wonderful, Lake District scenery is to die for and Renee Zellwegger and Ewan McGregor are great! |

There is a classic movie that takes place in Ireland that is very good. It is THE QUIET MAN with Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne---one of my all time favorites. It is different from his usual---a real romance and it isn't a war picture. |

Pride and Prejudice is a favorite of mine. (Both of the Colin Firth or the Kiera Knightly versions are great for very different reasons.) The most recent editions of Persuasion '07 with Sally Hawkins and Jane Eyre '06 with Toby Stephens/Ruth Wilson (both BBC/ Masterpiece Classic) are a MUST! Prince Edward Island is just as beautiful (large Scottish & Irish influence) and therefore you must see Anne of Green Gables. If you haven't seen these I envy you seeing them for the first time. Dear Frankie is one of my favorites. Braveheart has quite a nice romantic backstory in between the huge, bloody battles The series Coupling is a funny, sit-com about modern romance in the 90's in Great Britain |

Two movies I have recently fallen in love with, Cranford and Downton Abbey. There are not the traditional love stories where the main characters fall in love like say Jane Eyre (also fab!) These are feel good stories about being loved. Of course there are traditional aspects in each but with such large casts there are lots of stories going on at once and love is seen differently. These are a must watch for anyone who loves the romantic English period escapes! |
